Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana

WordPress Design, Non-Profit Resource Architecture, and Community Advocacy Strategy.

I designed a comprehensive digital platform for the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana (FHCCI) using WordPress and the Enfold theme. For a non-profit dedicated to such a critical mission, the website needed to function as both a high-authority information clearinghouse and an accessible resource for individuals seeking help. I focused on a clean, professional layout that prioritizes ease of navigation, ensuring that whether a visitor is looking for legal counseling, educational data, or public policy updates, the path to that information is clear and direct.

To support their diverse community outreach, I engineered the site with a focus on Information Accessibility. I integrated a robust multi-language translation system and organized their vast library of data, publications, and reports into a structured, searchable repository. By creating a mobile-responsive environment that balances high-impact calls to action with deep-dive educational content, I ensured that FHCCI’s digital presence effectively serves its role as a vital advocate for equitable housing across Indiana and beyond.

“For a non-profit like FHCCI, the website is more than just a marketing tool—it’s a lifeline for the community. I focused on a design that organizes their immense expertise into an accessible, high-authority platform, making it easy for people to find the help they need while establishing the center as the definitive voice for fair housing in Indiana.” — Doug Walker

The Challenge

As a private 501(c)3 organization, the FHCCI manages an immense amount of sensitive and complex information—from fair housing “basics” to detailed enforcement reports and legislative tracking. The challenge was to design a site that could house this wealth of data without becoming overwhelming for the average user. We had to solve the problem of creating a professional, authoritative aesthetic that remains welcoming to individuals who may be experiencing housing discrimination and are in need of immediate assistance.

The Strategy

The design strategy focused on “Empowerment through Clarity.” We prioritized a four-pillar program structure—Counseling, Education, Inclusive Communities, and Public Policy—to give users immediate direction based on their specific needs. By using a trust-building color palette and focusing on “Action-First” navigation, we ensured that the most critical functions (like the impact page and reporting tools) are highlighted, reinforcing the organization’s transparency and results-driven mission.

The Solution

  • Program-Siloed Navigation: Dedicated sections for FHCCI’s core programs to improve user experience and search engine relevance.
  • Integrated Resource Library: A structured architecture for hosting publications, data reports, and educational videos for easy public access.
  • Impact-Driven Storytelling: A custom “Impact Page” designed to showcase major accomplishments and testimonials, turning data into a compelling human narrative.

The Result

The Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana now has a polished, high-performance digital hub that matches its national reputation for advocacy. The site is fast, secure, and serves as a powerful engine for community education and legal support, ensuring that their mission to eradicate discrimination is supported by a rock-solid, accessible digital foundation.
