Thom C. Robinson OPA

WordPress Design, High-Resolution Portfolio Architecture.

I designed a sophisticated digital space for Thom C. Robinson, an award-winning member of the Oil Painters of America (OPA), using WordPress and the Enfold theme. Because his oil paintings are defined by their light and texture, I focused on creating a minimalist “Digital Gallery” that lets the art serve as the focal point. The site is designed to handle high-resolution imagery without sacrificing load speed, ensuring that collectors and gallery owners can see every brushstroke on any device.

I created a structured navigation that feels like walking through a physical exhibition. The design is intentional and quiet, providing an elegant backdrop that complements the traditional mastery of his work while offering a modern, easy-to-use interface for his audience.

“A master artist’s website should never compete with the art itself. I designed Thom’s site to be a silent, elegant gallery—a digital frame that lets his brushwork and light take center stage while providing a seamless experience for collectors.” — Doug Walker

The Challenge

An artist’s website faces the unique challenge of having to showcase large, detailed files without the technical backend distracting from the visual experience. For Thom, we needed to solve the problem of organizing a massive, decades-long archive of work into a format that felt curated and professional rather than cluttered.

The Strategy

The design strategy focused on “The Digital Frame.” We prioritized a clean, centered layout with plenty of white space to give the paintings room to breathe. By focusing on a high-contrast, simple aesthetic, we ensured that the colors and compositions of the artwork remained the primary focus for every visitor.

The Solution

  • Curated Subject Galleries: Organized navigation to help collectors find specific styles and subject matter quickly.
  • Retina-Ready Image Optimization: Performance-tuned displays that maintain the integrity of the oil paintings on high-definition screens.
  • Legacy Archive Architecture: A structured system for cataloging past works and sold pieces to maintain the artist’s professional history.

The Result

Thom C. Robinson now has a professional digital estate that reflects his standing in the fine art community. The site is secure, fast, and serves as an elegant portfolio that effectively bridges the gap between his physical studio and a global audience of collectors.
