Harry Cooler Conference Center

WordPress Design, Historic Preservation, and High-Tech Corporate Architecture.

I designed a sophisticated and immersive digital platform for the Harry Cooler Conference Center using WordPress and the Enfold theme. This wasn’t just a business build; it was about honoring the legacy of the historic Mills House, a Mid-Century Modern masterpiece in Greenwood designed by architect Harry Cooler. I focused on a sleek, architectural aesthetic that mirrors the clean lines of the building itself, using high-resolution photography to showcase the transformation of this landmark into a premier boutique event space.

Beyond the visuals, I engineered the site to function as a high-performance business tool. I organized the center’s unique meeting environments—from the executive boardrooms to the outdoor terraces—into a structured, intuitive navigation system. By prioritizing a mobile-responsive design, I ensured that busy corporate planners and community leaders can tour the facility, check amenities, and initiate booking inquiries seamlessly from any device, establishing the center as a modern hub for innovation and history.

“When you’re dealing with a building designed by a legend like Harry Cooler, the website has to live up to the blueprint. I focused on a design that reflects the precision and style of the architecture, ensuring that every visitor feels the unique energy of the space from the very first click.” — Doug Walker

The Challenge

The primary challenge was to bridge the gap between historic preservation and modern corporate utility. A website for a historic landmark can often feel like a museum exhibit, but this needed to work as a hard-hitting sales tool for high-level off-site meetings and events. We had to solve the puzzle of highlighting the technical “muscle” of the space—like its integrated AV and high-speed tech—without overshadowing the Mid-Century Modern charm that makes the venue a destination in its own right.

The Strategy

The design strategy focused on “Architectural Authority.” We prioritized a layout that uses minimalist design and professional typography to let the building’s unique geometry speak for itself. By organizing the site into specific “Meeting Experience” silos, we created a direct path for corporate clients to understand the facility’s versatility. The visual strategy relied on transparency and detail, using expansive galleries to build immediate confidence in prospective renters.

The Solution

  • Immersive Architectural Branding: A high-end design built on the Enfold theme that pays homage to the Harry Cooler legacy while serving modern business needs.
  • Streamlined Event Inquiry System: Custom-built, user-friendly forms designed to capture specific event requirements and drive high-quality bookings.
  • Integrated Amenity Showcases: A structured layout for AV capabilities, catering options, and floor plans to maximize clarity for event planners.
  • Responsive Professional UI: A clean-cut design that maintains a polished, “big-brand” look across all mobile and desktop devices.

The Result

The Harry Cooler Conference Center now possesses a polished, high-performance digital hub that perfectly reflects its commitment to both history and hospitality. The site is fast, secure, and serves as a powerful 24/7 ambassador for the facility, successfully bridging the gap between Mid-Century Modern soul and 21st-century business demands. By modernizing their digital identity, I’ve provided them with a platform as iconic and reliable as the building itself.
