Fair Housing Council of Metropolitan Memphis

WordPress, Translation Integration, Custom Intake Forms, and accessiBe Installation.

To give the Fair Housing Council a professional and stable foundation, I built the site using WordPress and the Enfold theme. The layout was engineered to be fast and high-contrast, ensuring that vital legal information and resources are accessible to all users on any device.

A primary focus for this project was Universal Accessibility. I performed a full accessiBe installation, which uses AI to ensure the site remains compliant with ADA and WCAG standards in real-time. Combined with custom translation tools, this setup guarantees that the Council’s resources are available to the entire Memphis community, regardless of their language or physical ability.

“For an organization like the Fair Housing Council, the website is a frontline resource. My goal was to remove every digital barrier—from language gaps to physical accessibility—so that vital legal help is always just one click away for everyone in the Memphis community.” Doug Walker

The Challenge

The Council’s previous site was outdated and difficult to navigate, which created a barrier for people seeking urgent legal help. They needed a way to organize complex information—laws, news, and resources—into a format that felt welcoming and professional rather than overwhelming.

The Solution

  • Action-Oriented Navigation: Placed “Report Discrimination” and “File a Complaint” in high-visibility areas to reduce user frustration.
  • Multi-Language Integration: Implemented tools to ensure non-English speakers can easily access fair housing rights and protections.
  • Simple Content Management: Built a structured news and events area so the Council can update the community on housing laws without needing technical help.

The Result

The new site is a reliable bridge between the Council and the community. It is fast, secure, and serves as a professional resource that removes the digital hurdles between victims of discrimination and the help they need.
