Wine and Canvas

WordPress Multisite Architecture, Franchise Localization, and Event E-Commerce.

I engineered a massive, highly scalable digital infrastructure for Wine and Canvas using a WordPress Multisite network paired with the Enfold theme. As a popular, multi-location “paint and sip” franchise, the website required a highly sophisticated backend to support dozens of individual branches, while presenting a unified, vibrant face to the public. I focused on a high-energy, creatively engaging aesthetic that immediately conveys the fun and social atmosphere of their events, utilizing colorful, dynamic galleries and a highly visual user interface.

This project is a masterclass in balancing corporate brand consistency with local franchise autonomy. I built a robust multisite architecture that allows the corporate team to maintain strict design standards, while empowering individual location owners to manage their own specific event calendars, ticket sales, and local SEO. By prioritizing a frictionless, mobile-optimized booking experience, I transformed a complex network of local branches into a streamlined, national entertainment portal.

“With a national franchise, the magic has to happen behind the scenes. I focused on designing a complex Multisite architecture that feels incredibly simple to the user. From the first click, it’s all about vibrant colors, local discovery, and the excitement of booking a fun night out, while the heavy technical lifting is completely invisible.” — Doug Walker

The Challenge

The fundamental challenge of a multi-location franchise website is routing the user. When someone lands on the homepage looking for a fun night out, they need to find their specific city’s event calendar instantly, without wading through corporate fluff. Furthermore, from a technical standpoint, we had to solve the puzzle of managing thousands of high-traffic event listings and ticket transactions across a national network without performance bottlenecks. The system had to be powerful enough for corporate, yet simple enough for local artists and managers to update daily.

The Strategy

The design strategy focused on “Localized Discovery and Social Proof.” We prioritized a layout that acts as a high-speed funnel, using prominent geographic selectors to instantly route users to their local sub-site. Visually, the strategy leaned heavily on the “experience”—using bright, full-width imagery of people laughing, painting, and enjoying wine to build immediate excitement. We stripped away unnecessary friction in the navigation, ensuring that the path from “choosing a location” to “purchasing a ticket” was as short and visually appealing as possible.

The Solution

  • Robust Multisite Architecture: A highly complex WordPress network setup that gives local franchisees their own dedicated environments (for local calendars and private event forms) under one central corporate umbrella.
  • Instant Geo-Routing UI: Prominent, intuitive location selectors designed to capture user intent immediately and direct them to their localized event schedule.
  • Frictionless Event Ticketing: A streamlined e-commerce integration tailored specifically for high-volume, date-specific event bookings and private party deposits.
  • Vibrant Experiential Branding: A lively, high-contrast design built on the Enfold theme that utilizes rich media galleries to showcase the fun, creative, and social nature of the brand.

The Result

Wine and Canvas now operates on a polished, enterprise-grade digital platform that effortlessly handles the logistical weight of a national franchise. The multisite network is fast, secure, and incredibly easy for local owners to manage, successfully bridging the gap between corporate brand power and local community engagement. By overhauling their digital architecture, I provided them with a scalable engine that drives ticket sales and keeps the focus exactly where it belongs: on a great night out.
